Robot cleaners are revolutionising household chores, offering a convenient and efficient solution for busy individuals and families. These intelligent devices automate cleaning tasks, freeing up time and energy for other pursuits. Compared to traditional house help, robot cleaners offer consistent performance, round-the-clock availability, essentially eliminating the need for negotiations and scheduling conflicts. They also provide a sense of privacy and control over the cleaning process.
Priced at Rs 79,999, the Dreame’s L10s Pro Ultra Heat symbolise this trend, boasting advanced features like self-cleaning, mop washing and drying and intelligent navigation. However, robot cleaners may not be suitable for all households as they can struggle with cluttered spaces, and require maintenance.
Is the robot vacuum cleaner worth the investment, or are there more budget-friendly options that might better suit your needs? Let's delve into its features and performance to find out.
Dreame L10s Pro Ultra Heat Design
The Dreame L10s Pro Ultra Heat sports a similar design as the L10s Ultra that we reviewed earlier this year. It follows the familiar circular design typical of robot vacuums, particularly those from Dreame. However, beneath its familiar exterior lies a sophisticated array of technology that sets it apart from more basic models.
There is a LiDAR sensor and high-resolution camera that enable advanced features like object detection, obstacle avoidance, faster mapping and AI-powered 3D mapping for intelligent cleaning path planning. There is a single-brush design with rubber suction and dual rotating mops.
One of the standout features of the robot cleaner is the self-lifting mop technology that addresses the common issue of robot vacuums getting stuck on rugs and carpets, specifically in winters. The robot automatically lifts the mops when transitioning between different floor types.
Weighing approximately 3.2 kg, the L10s Pro Ultra Heat is relatively lightweight for a robot vacuum. Its compact height allows it to maneuver under furniture and reach tight spaces without difficulty. Three buttons on top provide quick access to essential functions.
The self-cleaning dock is large and requires dedicated space. It features two compartments: the top houses the clean water tank (4.5 litres) and dirty water tank (4 liters each). The bottom compartment has a chrome-like finish and holds a 3.2-litre dust bag.
Another feature that stands out is the use of hot water to clean the mops, essentially helping in removing dirt more effectively and in the process, somewhat extending the life of the mops. Additionally, it gets leg-extending functionality to reach the corners and nooks that are usually left-out despite efficient cleaning.
Dreame L10s Pro Ultra Heat performance and app
Before the Dreame L10s Pro Ultra Heat robot cleaner takes its task to vacuum and mop, it needs to map the house. For that, it has a LiDAR sensor and high-resolution camera. We just tasked the robot to map the entire house, and it scanned and prepared a map of a 1950 sq ft area in 22 minutes.
It divided the map into multiple 9 sections with colour coding. This helped us easily identify the areas and allowed us to quickly select the rooms we want to clean. The Dreame L10s Pro Ultra Heat excels at both vacuuming and mopping, offering a truly comprehensive cleaning solution.
Our biggest test for the robot cleaner was its ability to handle pet hair. During shedding season, pet fur can quickly accumulate throughout the house, clinging to footwear and spreading everywhere if not cleaned promptly. This presents a significant challenge for any vacuum cleaner, robotic or otherwise.
With a powerful 7000Pa suction, it effectively tackled dirt, debris and pet hair on various surfaces. The robot was able to pick up a large amount of hair. Dreame provides customisation options, allowing users to adjust suction power based on specific cleaning needs, whether it's a quick daily clean or a deep clean for heavily soiled areas.
You can really tell the robot’s intelligent suction control is working because the robot noticeably increases its power and gets louder when it moves onto carpets. During testing, the L10s Pro Ultra Heat cleaned various surfaces, including tiles, wooden floors and carpets/ foot mats, thanks to its robust wheel design and powerful suction.
The mopping performance is equally impressive, rivaling manual mopping in effectiveness. The L10s Pro Ultra Heat offers multiple cleaning modes: Vacuum, Mop, Vacuum and Mop, Mop after Vacuum, and Customise room cleaning.
We also had the option to choose the suction power: Quiet, Standard, Turbo, Max; set wetness of the mops: Slightly dry, Moist, Wet; and thirdly, the cleaning mode: Quick, Standard, Intensive, Deep.
We mostly set our settings to: Vacuum and Mop, Standard suction power and Standard cleaning mode. In this mode, an area of 108 sq feet was cleaned in 12 minutes. In quick cleaning mode, an area of 97 sq feet was cleaned in 8 minutes. This was due to objects like shoes and stool being kept in the room.
Object detection and intelligent navigation
The L10s Pro Ultra Heat boasts advanced object detection and avoidance capabilities, thanks to its onboard camera, AI algorithms, and LiDAR sensor. It can identify even small objects like toys or shoes, effectively navigating around them to ensure a thorough clean.
The vacuum cleaner even captures images of detected objects and marks them on the map in the app, providing users with a visual overview of its cleaning path and any obstacles encountered. On the map in the app, the obstructed areas are denoted by graphics of the object such as wires and shoes.
When it comes to self-cleaning, the Dreame L10s Pro Ultra Heat’s self-cleaning dock lives up to its promise, efficiently emptying the onboard dustbin, washing the mop pads with hot water at 58 degrees celsius and drying them with hot air circulation for disinfection and to prepare for the next cleaning session.
This automated process occurs after each cleaning task, ensuring the robot is always ready to go. But the convenience doesn't stop there. The Dreame app offers granular control over the self-cleaning process, allowing users to customise how and when the dock performs its tasks.
Under Wash category, users can choose Light, Standard and Deep mob-cleaning optionsOther options include Dry and Empty where the dock will perform user-defined tasks. Apart from controlling the robot, the app also provides information on the tasks completed, battery percentage and other granular controls.
Dreame L10s Pro Ultra Heat battery
The Dreame L10s Pro Ultra Heat boasts impressive battery life. In our tests, it efficiently cleaned our 1950 sq ft house in approximately 50 minutes using the standard cleaning mode and about one and half hour in deep cleaning mode. It can fully charge in about 3 hours.
On a single charge, the robot can operate for roughly 150 minutes, depending upon the type tasks it is assigned. Furthermore, it features a convenient “charge and resume” function. When the battery runs low, the robot automatically returns to the dock to recharge and then resumes cleaning where it left off, ensuring a complete and uninterrupted cleaning cycle.
Verdict
The Dreame L10s Pro Ultra Heat proves to be a highly capable and intelligent robot vacuum and mop combo, offering a compelling blend of convenience, performance and advanced features. Its self-cleaning capabilities, hot water mop washing, and intelligent navigation elevate it above many competitors. While the price point of Rs 79,999 may seem high, the time saved and the thoroughness of cleaning it provides could justify the investment for many households, especially those with pets or larger homes.
However, it's important to consider whether the advanced features are essential to your needs. If a more basic robot vacuum can adequately address your cleaning requirements, a more budget-friendly option might be a better fit. Ultimately, the decision depends on your priorities and budget.
The Dreame L10s Pro Ultra Heat demonstrates the continuous advancements in robotic cleaning technology, offering a glimpse into a future where household chores are increasingly automated, freeing us to focus on spending more time with our families and friends.
