Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 launched: This phone will get latest chipset first

Qualcomm has launched its latest premium chipset, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 Mobile Platform, with performance gains and AI capabilities for the next generation of flagship mobile devices. The new chipset joins the existing premium tier lineup, and the company says that the latest offering aims to meet rising consumer demand for camera innovations, gaming and on-device intelligence.Qualcomm says that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 is built for speed and efficiency, featuring a custom-built CPU and advanced GPU architecture. The company says that chip packs a custom-built Qualcomm Oryon CPU, capable of peak speeds up to 3.8 GHz. This translates to a 36% overall performance improvement and 76% better web browsing responsiveness compared to its predecessor. Meanwhile, the Qualcomm Adreno GPU features a sliced architecture, which is said to boost gaming and graphics performance by 11%. Further, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 also gets an “enhanced” on-device intelligence. Powered by the Qualcomm AI Engine and the Hexagon NPU, the chipset is claimed to have achieved up to 46% improved performance, enabling powerful agentic AI assistants.Another feature is Instant Wake, powered by Qualcomm Sensing Hub that combines microphone and sensor inputs, allowing users to instantly wake their AI assistant simply by picking up their device.The Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 is slated to come with various flagship devices from global original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). These include: iQoo, Honor, Meizu, Motorola, OnePlus and Vivo.While Qualcomm has not specified which phone will be the first to feature the 8 Gen 5, OnePlus has announced that OnePlus 15R is the one that will be the first phone with the latest chipset.
