Apple starts rolling out iOS 18.1 public beta with Apple Intelligence features ahead of iPhone 16 goes on sale

Apple iPhone 16 series will be officially in the hands of the public within a few hours. In the meantime, Apple has already started rolling out the iOS 18.1 public beta version for compatible iPhone models. The latest update allows users to experience Apple Intelligence on their new iPhones before the iPhone 16 officially goes on sale. This public beta follows the recent release of a developer beta version. In addition to iOS 18.1, Apple has also rolled out the macOS Sequoia 15.1 and iPadOS 18.1 public betas for Mac and iPad users.

Apple Intelligence iOS 18.1 public beta: Availability and how to download

To access the iOS 18.1 public beta, users have to enrol in the Apple Beta Software Program using their Apple ID. Users already enrolled in the beta program can follow these steps:

• On your iPhone, go to the Settings app.
• Select General, then tap Software Update.
• Choose Beta Updates and activate the iOS 18.1 Public Beta.

However, it's important to note that Apple Intelligence features will be available only on supported devices. This includes last year’s Apple iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max as well as this year’s all four models: iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max which comes with built Apple Intelligence support.

Apple Intelligence features confirmed

In the release notes, Apple writes: “iOS 18.1 beta gives you an early preview of upcoming apps, features, and technologies. Please back up your iPhone before you install the beta. This beta includes an initial set of features powered by Apple Intelligence. To try the Apple Intelligence beta, join the waitlist in Settings and you will be notified as soon as it is ready for your device. Both the device language and Siri language must be set to US English. Apple Intelligence is available on iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Apple Intelligence is not currently available in the EU or China.”

How to try Apple Intelligence features

For iPhone 15 Pro or the latest iPhone 16 models, follow these steps:

• After downloading the iOS 18.1 beta, open the Settings app.
• Search for Apple Intelligence & Siri.
• Tap on Join waitlist.
