Apple now selling replacement parts for iPhone 16 series: Here’s how much self-repair will cost

Apple has begun selling replacement parts for its iPhone 16 series, expanding its self-repair program to include cameras, displays, batteries, and other components for its latest devices. The move comes after the company released repair manuals in September.


Camera modules for the standard iPhone 16 and 16 Plus are priced at $169, while Pro models cost $249. Display replacements range from $279 to $379 depending on the model. Batteries are available for $99 for base models and $119 for Pro versions, with lower prices available when returning old components.


Users can also repair the TrueDepth camera system for Face ID, back glass, and speakers. Apple offers specialised repair tool kits for rent at $49 for a seven-day period.


The expansion of Apple's self-repair program, which launched in 2022, marks a significant shift from the company's previous stance that restricted repairs to authorised technicians. The program now provides customers direct access to genuine Apple parts, tools, and repair documentation.


Apple has announced plans to offer better support for select third-party replacement batteries and displays in the future. The company will also support the use of genuine used Apple parts for DIY repairs.


While self-repair options can reduce costs compared to professional service, Apple notes that the process is best suited for "individuals who are experienced with the complexities of repairing electronic devices." The company's repair manuals include safety precautions for handling potentially dangerous components like batteries.


The self-service repair program is currently available in the United States and select European countries through Apple's self-service repair store.
