Apple is perspiring to refresh its iPad lineup soon. The Cupertino-based tech giant is expected to launch the all new iPad 12 and iPad Air 8. According to a report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the upcoming iPads will focus on faster processor rather than design overhauls. The report adds that the entry-level iPad will be powered by Apple’s A18 chipset, while the iPad Air will pack the M4 chip. Gurman also notes that the customers how are hoping for a major design change may be disappointed this year as the company is keeping the hardware largely the same as last year.
“Updated iPads are also coming soon, including a refreshed entry-level model and iPad Airs. For those holding out for design changes, though, prepare to be disappointed: There’s little new coming to the iPad family this year other than faster processors,” reports Bloomberg.
Apple intelligence coming to entry-level iPad
Apple’s idea to shift to the A18 chip in the base iPad plays an important role because it enables support for Apple intelligence, Apple’s suite of AI-powered features. This also marks the first time an entry-level iPad will gain access to the Apple Intelligence tools. It is also expected that Apple may highlight this capability in its marketing.
While the iPad 12 and iPad Air 8 will focus more on performance, the iPad mini is reportedly set for a bigger upgrade. The company is planning to bring OLED display to iPad mini. This change will improve contrast, color accuracy, and overall visual quality, making the mini the standout in terms of hardware innovation this year.
Apple’s iPad business has seen renewed momentum. During the holiday quarter, iPad revenue grew 6% year-over-year, surpassing Wall Street expectations. Much of this success came from the entry-level iPad, which Apple now plans to push more aggressively toward enterprise customers. The upcoming refresh is expected to build on this momentum by combining affordability with AI-driven features.
