Marvel Snap back online after 24 hour ban: Developer says "never again" as it looks to cut ties with TikTok-owner ByteDance

Marvel Snap is back online and its developer Second Dinner announced it will seek a new publisher and bring more services in-house after the digital card game was temporarily banned alongside TikTok in the United States.

"Marvel Snap is back online in the U.S. But to make sure this NEVER happens again, we're working to bring more services in-house and partner with a new publisher," Second Dinner stated on X, marking what they called "the start of a new era for Marvel Snap."


The collectible card game was taken offline on January 19 due to its connection with ByteDance, which owns both TikTok and Marvel Snap's current publisher Nuverse. While TikTok resumed operations after approximately 14 hours, Marvel Snap remained unavailable for an additional 12 hours before returning to service.

The game has returned to PC platforms, though mobile versions remain temporarily unavailable on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. In-app purchases are also currently disabled, with players directed to use the Marvel Snap web shop for any transactions.

The disruption occurred after TikTok was banned in the U.S. over national security concerns, affecting all ByteDance-owned properties. While service has been temporarily restored, President Donald Trump has indicated this is merely an extension period, suggesting further disruptions could occur if ownership negotiations aren't resolved.

Second Dinner acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding the situation, stating, "We know this probably leaves you with even more questions than answers. We appreciate your patience, but in the meantime enjoy playing Marvel Snap. We'll continue to update with more information as soon as possible."
