YU launches ‘Project Highway’ source code management system

YU Televentures

CEO Rahul Sharma on Monday announced a new platform that would act as a bank of

source codes

for

developers

. They can download source

codes

from the new platform and play with them on different devices.

Internally dubbed as ‘

Project Highway

’, Sharma said the platform will be populated by the source codes from Google, MediaTek, Qualcomm and the likes as and when they are rolled out. These will then go through the company’s in-house developers and will later be released to end users. Project Highway is also called as

Source Code

Supply Chain Management System.


Sharma adds that this also makes the Micromax subsidiary company first in India to supply source codes to users in a speedy manner. More details are expected to be revealed later this month during the launch of the company’s upcoming smartphone device.

The

YU

CEO also put an end to the rumours and reports regarding the company’s exclusive partnership with Cyanogen. He confirmed that the exclusive deal between YU Televentures and Cyanogen Inc has ended. Sharma also said that Cyanogen OS failed to get any traction with YU smartphones as it came with its share of bugs. Sharma further clarified that the company will still be supporting its existing Cyanogen OS-based YU smartphones and will be pushing out future updates to the devices as well.
Although the YU Televentures CEO did not confirm it, this strongly suggests that the upcoming smartphones by the company might run on stock Android OS.


Cyanogen and YU Televentures formed an exclusive partnership back in 2014, providing the Micromax subsidiary exclusive access to Cyanogen OS in India.
