service seems to be the next big thing. Yahoo-owned content discovery website
Tumblr reportedly is all set to commence its live video streaming service later this week. The blogging platform has posted a series of teaser Gif images on its website about an event it is hosting on June 22. The Gifs also hint at the company's streaming plans.
The live stream is scheduled between 4PM EST to 5.30PM EST (1.30AM to 3AM IST).
The images posted by
Tumblr
on the website include messages such as “We will broadcast live from the surface of Mars” or “You will learn the metaphysical truth about your Tumblr” and more. Some teaser images also promise to bring informative content from popular bloggers or basketball players (Harlem Globetrotters) as well.
Rumours suggest that the platform will archive the live video streaming like we have seen with
Facebook Live feature. Though it is still not clear how the firm will go about it.
There have been speculations about Tumblr launching a live-streaming service from months now. However, the Yahoo-owned entity has arrived pretty late to the party with tech giants such as Facebook and Twitter already there. Twitter entered the fray with the acquisition of Periscope in March 2015. Facebook followed with the launch of Facebook Live service in September last year.
Google too has YouTube live streaming service and
Amazon has Twitch.
Earlier this year, there were reports that
Yahoo was in talks with Facebook regarding an advertising partnership that would let the latter sell ads on Yahoo’s Tumblr website. The company is already is already has an ad partnership with search giant Google signed last year.
Yahoo acquired Tumblr in 2013 for $1.1 billion.
