Reliance Jio: Half a million users, 18GB average monthly data use
NEW DELHI: Reliance today said in its Q4 financial report that over half a million users have joined its Jio network. Also, it said that the average monthly consumption per user is in excess of 18GB within the first month while the average voice usage is over 250 minutes for the same period.
Reliance Jio had rolled out its full scale services to its employees, partners, vendors and associates on a trial basis on December 28, last year. The full commercial launch is expected by this December.
“The initial feedback is very encouraging and has established smooth operations of all aspects of the network. All the digital applications have also been tested extensively as part of the employee launch program,” said the report.
Reliance Jio has also commenced the operations of the 100 Gigabits per second Bay of Bengal Gateway (BBG) submarine cable system. The 8,100-km cable system linking BBG is one of the new cable systems in the region in which Reliance Jio has invested as part of its broadband plans.
Two branches of BBG would connect with India at Chennai on the East Coast and Mumbai on the West Coast. Reliance Jio owns and operates the undersea cable landing facility in Chennai. The Mumbai landing of the BBG submarine cable system has been handled by Vodafone South.
The company recently reported that it has trimmed its net loss to Rs 11.40 crore during six months ended March 2016. In the corresponding six months to March 2015, the company's net loss was at Rs 15.44 crore.
Total income from operations during the October-March period of 2015-16 stood Rs 2,00,000 (Rs 0.02 crore) which remained unchanged from the year ago period, the company said in a regulatory filing to the BSE.
For the full year ended March 2016, Reliance Jio's net loss stood almost flat at Rs 23.88 crore as against Rs 23.12 crore a year earlier. The corresponding income for full fiscals -- 2015-16 and 2014-15 -- were constant at Rs 4,00,000 (Rs 0.04 crore).
Reliance Industries, which promotes Reliance Jio, has invested over Rs 1 lakh crore to rollout 4G mobile services in the country.
