Pokémon Go now bigger than porn on Google search
NEW DELHI: Pokemon Go mania has taken over the world by storm, with Niantic Labs’ augmented reality game soaring new heights of popularity. And now, Pokemon Go has surpassed porn as the most searched term on Google.
Pornography is generally the staple of online search and only on some rare occasions, has a search query managed to beat it. This happened recently when “Brexit” started to trend, as per a report by Independent.

This is the first time a smartphone game has managed to top Google search. While Pokemon Go had relatively lower traction when it was first launched, the searches related to it skyrocketed over this past weekend.
Surprisingly, the maximum search queries were found to be originating from countries like the Netherlands, Costa Rica, Canada and El Salvador, along with regions like the US, Australia and New Zealand, where the game has been officially released.
Developed by Niantic Labs, Pokémon Go is is already taxing the company’s servers.
The game recently surpassed dating app Tinder and is closing in on microblogging website Twitter in terms of daily active users.
According to data compiled by SimilarWeb, Pokemon Go is already installed on 5.16% of all Android devices in the US. This means it is installed on more Android phones in the US than Tinder is.
The report not only reveals the large install base of the app, but also the sky high user engagement. Around 60% of those who have installed the app in the US are using it on daily basis, which means 3% of the entire Android users in the region.
