Fleksy
, a company well known for its gesture based
keyboard app
, has been acquired by content sharing website
Pinterest
. The financial details of the deal are not yet known.
The acquisition comes in the month marking four years since Fleksy launched a standalone
keyboard app on iOS for visually impaired users. Although the third-party
keyboard
app has been acquired by Pinterest, it will still remain available on the iOS and Android app stores “for the unforeseeable future.”
As a tribute to its user community, Fleksy said it will be making some of the keyboard’s components open-source, for benefit of developers. “We’ll update you here and send out a tweet when the open-sourced project is ready for your contributions.”
As per VentureBeat website, the Fleksy
app and its technology won’t be coming to Pinterest. As a part of the deal, Pinterest will be using Fleksy’s 10-person team to improve its visual search platform.

These technical artists have a history of developing architecturally innovative, highly optimized software.”
Although Fleksy has remained a bit less popular as compared to
Google Keyboard and SwiftKey, it was selected as one of the “Best
Apps
of 2015” on Google Play Store. The keyboard app was made free for users last year, in order to expand its reach to more users.
