Opera Mini browser for Android gets video boost feature

NEW DELHI: The Opera Mini mobile web browser for Android has a new video boost feature that decreases buffering as a user watches a video.

Opera’s video boost technology reduces the size of video data, to lessen video loading time and combat buffering delays, the company said in a statement.

In order to turn on the feature, update the Opera Mini app from Google Play Store and head to Data Savings menu. Turn on the ‘Video Boost’ function at the bottom of the screen in order to activate the feature.

The company claims to be the first one to integrate this feature into a web browser.

“In India alone, 70% of smartphone users stream video on their phones. It (Video boost) works to make the video sizes smaller serving up slimmer mobile videos and keeping data plans in check,” says Sunil Kamath, vice president - South Asia & South East Asia at Opera.
