Enjoy free Wi-Fi in Delhi Metro soon
NEW DELHI: Commuters on Delhi Metro have a reason to rejoice. Soon, free Wi-Fi will be available through the network with the touch of a click. Delhi Metro has tied up with two companies to provide high speed Wi-Fi on all its corridors in the second half of this year.
"It's a part of our efforts to provide increased facilities and convenience to the passengers," said a DMRC spokesperson. The work, which has been undertaken by Techno Sat Comm and PING Network, will roll out what will potentially be India's largest platform of Wi-Fi services. "Techno Sat Comm has been given exclusive licence by DMRC to provide Wi-Fi services for 10 years," Jagdip Rana, director, business development of the company told TOI.
Delhi Metro had earlier signed an MoU with another company, RailTel, in 2015 to provide Wi-Fi at five stations -- Rajiv Chowk, Kashmere Gate, Vishwavidyalaya, Central Secretariat and Hauz Khas.
Commuters can consume videos, information and news that is local, timely and relevant to passengers, added the official. As part of an initiative to provide internet services, Delhi Metro has tied up with two companies to provide high speed Wi-Fi on all it's corridors by the second half of this year.
According to the representative, Techno Sat Comm runs the country's first Wi-Fi on train service on the Delhi-Howrah Rajdhani Express. "We have adapted the technology keeping in mind adverse weather conditions including heat, dust, heavy rains, vibration of trains and large passenger loads," said Nirav Dave of Techno Sat Comm.
To access the free Wi-Fi, commuters will have to log onto the internet via a dedicated app. "This app will also intelligently display the location, approach and destination stations on a real-time basis and help navigate between different lines. This is in addition to the exclusive entertainment and city-based content that passengers can see on a real-time basis," said a representative of Techno Sat Comm and PING Network.
