Google celebrates Rio Olympics 2016 with games doodle

NEW DELHI: The countdown to

Rio Olympics 2016

has begun. Joining in the celebrations is search giant Google. The company has dedicated its

doodle

to the biggest sporting extravaganza. The company's doodle marks the beginning of Rio Olympics with its own Fruit Games. .

Available on Android and iOS, users would have to visit the g.co/fruit website to update the Google Search app. After updating, they simply need to open the app and tap on the Google Doodle to start playing games.

On tapping the Google doodle, users can see a total of seven games that include tennis, swimming, racing and more. Like we saw in Angry Birds, each of these 'fruit games' rate user’s performance on three stars. While few games takes a lot of tapping on the display, others use handset sensors.

Describing the doodle in a blog post, the company says, “Today marks the season opener of the 2016

Doodle Fruit Games

! For the next couple of weeks, we’ll journey to an otherwise unassuming fruit stand in Rio, where produce from all over the market competes for the title of freshest fruit.”

To get the fans excited, the search giant recently introduced 'enhanced features' for YouTube, Google Search, and Google Maps to enable users to receive alerts and updates for top events and medal wins. As per the company, "the new set of features will help bring fans closer to knowing more about their favourite athletes and sports disciplines." The search pages will give more detailed results, while YouTube will let you stream events and Google Maps will use Street View feature to explore the various Olympic venues.
