Freedom 251: Win a lucky draw to buy it
NEW DELHI: Noida-based Ringing Bells has announced that will now hold a state-wise lucky draw in the country to sell the Freedom 251 -- the world’s cheapest Android smartphone. This comes after the company said that it is ready to ship around 2 lakh units by June end.
The smartphone had received around seven crore registrations when it was announced in February. Earlier, the company had promised to finish all deliveries of Freedom 251 by June.
To recall, the Freedom 251 smartphone is priced at Rs 251 (excluding delivery charges). Ringing Bells is yet to showcase the final product. Earlier, the company had handed over a smartphone made by a different company to journalists for reviewing purposes and justified by claiming it as a prototype device and that the final Freedom 251 handset would be similar.
For the price of Rs 251, the company promises to offer a 4-inch qHD display with 960x540 pixels resolution with Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system, 1.3GHz quad-core processor 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage (up to 32GB expandable), 3.2MP rear camera, 0.3MP front facing camera, 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS and a 1,450 mAh battery.
Surprisingly, the company is hopeful about making profits from the Freedom 251 which comes with a bill of materials worth Rs 2,500. While the question, how is it possible to price a smartphone this cheap can be best answered by the company's president Ashok Chadha, what consumers should really be worried about is whether they will get smartphone and will it deliver on the basic usability it promises.
