Apple iPhone SE: Here’s what ‘SE’ stands for

NEW DELHI: Apple’s new iPhone SE stands apart from its sibling that came before it in more ways than one. Not only is it the first iPhone since 2013 to sport a 4-inch display, comes with an old design and has not standout feature but also does not follow the standard naming convention that the company has followed so far.

For the first time since the original iPhone, Apple has a smartphone without a number in the name. But the question also arises: what does ‘SE’ stand for in iPhone SE?


Though Apple has never revealed the logic behind its naming methodologies to public at large, US-based technology journalist Jason Capriani wrote in a tweet that Apple vice president Phil Schiller confirmed to him that the ‘SE’ stands for ‘Special Edition’ in the new model’s name.

This confirmation, however, is not a surprise as the tech rumour mill had been abuzz that SE would likely stand for ‘Special Edition’ long before iPhone SE was unveiled.
