Amazon issues warning to Kindle users: Update before March 22 or lose net connectivity
E-commerce giant Amazon has warned users of older models of Kindle to upgrade by March 22 or lose internet connection. This basically means users will not be able to download new books.
In a warning on its website Amazon company said, "Customers using an outdated software version of Kindle e-readers require an important software update by March 22, 2016 in order to continue to download Kindle books from the Cloud, access the Kindle Store, and use other Kindle services on their device."
Most Kindles update automatically as long as they are turned on and connected to Wi-Fi. The software updates downloads and installs them automatically even while the device is asleep. However, for those users whose not, it's time to plug it.
As the company says, "Important: If you do not update your device by March 22, 2016, you will receive the following message on your device: Your Kindle is unable to connect at this time. Please make sure you are within wireless range and try again. If the problem persists, please restart your Kindle from the Menu in Settings and try again. If you see this message on your device on or after March 22, you will need to manually install the latest software update for your device. Go to Fire & Kindle Software Updates for more details."
Also, for those who miss the bus will not be entirely locked out from the internet. Just that they will have to manually update their Kindle e-readers by downloading the update file from the company's website and transferring it via a USB cable.
Those who own a newer generation of Kindle need not worry. According to Amazon, users of Kindle Paperwhite 6th and 7th Generation; Kindle 7th Generation; and Kindle Voyage 7th Generation, which were released in 2013 or later need not upgrade.
