BETWEEN SHOWERS AND SWEAT, GOA AWAITS MONSOON RELIEF
Even as pre-monsoon showers sweep across Goa, the relief has been fleeting. The rains may cool the streets for a while, but the lingering humidity and rising temperatures continue to leave residents exhausted, forcing many to rethink their daily routines, diets and social plans to cope with the weather. Vasco resident Maria Rodrigues says, “The pre-monsoon showers come and go like a tease, but the humidity sticks around, making everything feel heavier. I’m sticking to light, calming food and trying to stay cool.” For model and real estate agent Milin Tendulkar, seasonal eating has become essential during this stretch of intense heat. “I consume more vegetables and seasonal fruits because they help the body feel lighter and more refreshed. And yes, I love to splash ice cold water on my face.”
Staying cool by the water
With humid weather making daytime outings exhausting, many families are choosing pools over beaches. Hilton Fernandes from Verna says, “While beaches will always be one of Goa’s biggest charms, spending long hours by the shore in this heat can feel intense. These days, I prefer a pool — whether for a one-day picnic with family or even a quick overnight stay.” Some still prefer beach walks, but after sunset. Antonette Pereira says, “Saltwater helps remove pain from the body. But instead of going during the day, we go in the evening. The heat during the day is unbearable.”
For Yashmita Singh, staying close to the water is the best way to beat the heat. “A quick dip in the pool, a beach picnic or just sitting by the sea feels refreshing. Lately, my favourite thing has been the Day Drift yacht ride. Being out on the water with the breeze, music, and swimming in the sea feels like the best way to enjoy summer without feeling the heat.”
