An interesting debate is raking up on social media channels. And yet again, multiple celebrities are at caught in the centre of the storm.
Earlier in the week, noted writer Chetan Bhagat wrote an open letter on UC News (a news aggregation app), dissing dance reality shows. He said dance shows can do more harm than good. Although not a novel idea, the letter caught many by surprise since Chetan has been a judge on dance realty show 'Nach Baliye 7' and even danced in the last episode of the show.
Multiple celebrities jumped into the discussion in their imitable style. Comedian Karan Talvar of Bollywood Gandu fame posted a video comparing dance shows to poker, stating 'It isn't fun when you are not invested in it'. He said competition brings out the best in us and, if some of us can make money and become popular because of it, there is no harm done. As a side note, Karan added that his mother is hooked on to dance shows and would not take kindly to their demise. (

Manish Paul, host of Jhalak Dikhla Jaa for the last 5 seasons, responded with a blog post of this own. He said dance is not just about the performance but technique and x-factor, among other things. A platform that allows people from all walks of life to come on a single stage and give a performance of a lifetime. Manish made a pertinent point when he wrote, "While you see people from all walks of life giving their 100% to give a perfect dance performance, there will be a chef who will come and dance his heart out bringing tears to everyone's eyes without the fear of being eliminated or judged with low points."
