Ever since Netflix released the first trailer for its docuseries, '
Mr McMahon' there has been a lot of chatter within the industry. This comes especially after McMahon was accused of sex trafficking and abuse by former
WWE employee Janel Grant. The series is going to be released on the 25th of September, and it has been reported that the series will be a six-part burial for the most controversial man in the history of WWE.
While there has been a lot of speculation, Fightful Select has gauged the reaction to the trailer. According to their sources, a long-time WWE talent has shared that nobody should be caring about his life outside of the legal situation that he is currently facing. They also claimed that more than a dozen of WWE Contacts want to 'wash their hands' of McMahon and refuse to make any comments about him.
In the trailer for the show, many popular WWE Icons were seen sharing their opinions on
Vince McMahon as a character. It then proceeds to McMahon talking about how nobody really knew him, despite his portrayal as the 'bad guy'. Fightful has quoted WWE sources sharing that this line from the trailer was an addition just to get people talking about the show.
WWE is not officially linked to the Netflix docuseries, and refuses to make a statement on the showAccording to Wrestlenomics, a disclaimer has been added at the beginning of the show to inform viewers that most of these interviews had taken place before the filing of the lawsuit. Fightful has confirmed that according to sources this was done just to safeguard the big names in WWE who do not want to be associated with McMahon.
Thus, there are instances in the show where praises were showered on McMahon.
When it comes to Janel Grant, she is not associated with the show in any way. However, her name may be mentioned in the final episode. According to a statement released by Netflix, it was confirmed that, "Netflix's documentary group made initial outreach to Janel's representation for an interview for this project. Despite this, no such interview came to fruition."
WWE has declined to be officially linked to the docuseries, even though they share a great working relationship with Netflix. Even when Fightful approached the company on a statement post the trailer release, they refused. According to reports, WWE was slated to have production credits on the series initially but that decision was changed as they proceeded with the show.
