John Cena reveals his past struggle with skin cancer
During a new campaign to promote the use of sun protection,
John Cena revealed his past struggle with skin cancer, not only once but twice. The 47-year-old wrestler admitted that the health issue occurred as a result of his lifestyle and situation.
In the interview with
People, he recalled his formative years when he was growing up and said, “I grew up in a small town next to Newburyport and Salisbury Beach. Some of my earliest memories of summer are of small carnivals and people walking the beachside."
“My mom (Carol) raised five boys, and I'm pretty sure she just wanted to keep us alive and healthy. She had her hands full for sure, so I certainly do not blame her. And me being born in '77, this was kind of all new knowledge.” He admitted that wearing sun protection or sunscreen was something he never did, and blamed his daily routine for the cause of his skin cancer.
Cena said, “I was stubborn. I didn't want to have a routine, and I also thought the problem would never reach me. "And it's one of those things where I had a ton of exposure with minimal protection and it caught up with me,” he further stated.
How did John Cena treat his skin cancer?
Further,
the Cenation leader stated about his experience with the diagnosis and how a dermatologist helped him to get rid of the disease: “It wasn’t until I went to a dermatologist and got a skin check-up and had a cancerous spot removed from my right pec.”
He also acknowledged, “I was very lucky to have a great dermatologist, who kind of, I guess for lack of a better term, held me by the hand and let me know that I wasn’t alone.”
The 16-time WWE World Champion then revealed that he had a second cancerous spot removed a year later from his right shoulder. He said that WWE fans can spot the scars from his operations when they watch him on television: “It shows up like a white polka dot on the side of my chest and my shoulder.”
Meanwhile, John Cena has recently teamed up with personal care brand Neutrogena and now he has a new commercial for Neutrogena where the slogan is a play on his catchphrase, "You can't see me."
