On the September 9 episode of Monday Night RAW, which was held in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, the audience was treated to a special appearance by the local legend Bret "The Hitman" Hart. The segment was electrified by Hart's presence as he addressed his loyal Canadian fans and reflected on his storied
WWE career. However, the excitement took an unexpected turn with the entrance of the current World Heavyweight Champion, GUNTHER, who is also known as The Ring General.
GUNTHER initially acknowledged Bret Hart's legacy with some praise, but his admiration quickly turned into disdain. In a surprising move, GUNTHER publicly criticized Hart in front of the Calgary crowd, revealing that he preferred Goldberg over Hart as his favorite wrestling star. This confrontation created a dramatic moment in the ring.
Amid this tension, Sami Zayn, a Canadian wrestler who has long idolized Bret Hart, made a significant entrance of his own. Zayn came down to the ring to challenge GUNTHER, but his tribute to the local hero was also deeply personal. Zayn wore the Number 13 jersey of the Calgary Flames, a jersey once worn by the late Johnny Gaudreau. Gaudreau, a celebrated NHL player, tragically passed away in a car accident on August 29, 2024, in Oldmans Township, New Jersey.
The accident, which also involved Gaudreau's brother Matthew, was reportedly caused by an alleged negligent driver.
In memory of Johnny Gaudreau, both Sami Zayn and the fans of Calgary have shown their respect and sorrow. Outside the Saddledome, mourners left flowers, iconic jerseys, and other memorabilia to honor Gaudreau's legacy. This heartfelt tribute underscored the community's grief and respect for the hockey star who was laid to rest on the same day.
