WWE Legend Kurt Angle Teases Details About His Biopic and a Sequel

Kurt Angle has provided additional details about how his biopic came to be. The untitled film, which was revealed in late 2024, will center on Kurt Angle’s journey to Olympic success in 1996 when the Hall of Famer won a gold medal despite having a broken neck. Angle has released a follow-up and details about a sequel since the original announcement.

Kurt Angle Talks Turning His Wrestling Legacy Into a Movie

Angle first claimed that he picked the directors because they have extensive knowledge of amateur wrestling in an interview with Talk is Jericho:

“I’ve been pretty much building to this movie I’m having done about my life’s sports story. The directors are Ian and Eshom Nelms. They’re really talented directors. The reason why I picked them is because they were wrestlers in high school and college. So they understand my sport.”

Angle went on to say that although the first film would not focus on his professional wrestling career, the follow-up would be:

“So we got the ball rolling with that, and now we’re getting investors and we’re going to start picking the cast soon. This movie’s only about my Olympic story, not my WWE story. There’s going to be, actually, two movies. ‘Angle 1’ and ‘Angle 2.’ One’s for the Olympics, one’s for after, my WWE and TNA career, everything after that. It was just too much to put in one movie, so they wanted to split it in two.”

John Cena will retire from WWE in 2025 after a year-long farewell tour. His final match will occur that year. Cena debuted against Kurt Angle in 2002. Angle has previously commented on who he thinks should face Cena in his last match. Jon Bernthal, Angle's relative, is being considered to play Angle in a film.
