A legend of the 80s and 90s, Black Bark has passed away at the age of 76. The iconic wrestler who was known for his rugged personality inside the squared circle disclosed that he has been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in 2023. Many wrestlers took to their social media accounts to pay their tribute to the legend. His demise marks the end of an era for wrestling fans who grew up watching Bart in high spirits inside the ring.

Farewell To Black Bart: Wrestling Star of The 80s and 90s


During Bart’s tenure with WWE (formerly WWF) he won the Bass Knuckles title, Tag team title thrice including one with John Hawk. With a career spanning over decades, Bart was a part of various promotions, including Mid-Atlantic championship. The former National Heavyweight Champion who worked in every major promotion during the 1980s and 1990s, lost his battle to cancer on Thursday, January 10. Dutch Mantell also highlighted on his podcast Story Time with Dutch Mantell, how Bart stopped taking chemotherapy due to his exhaustion of medical insurance funds.



Speaking about his sad demise, his wife, Linda posted on his Facebook page, the post read, “You might know him as Black Bart but to me he was my husband Ricky. He left us this morning. He was pronounced at 5:26 this morning. He is Resting In Peace.” Many other wrestling legends like Ric Flair, Dusty Rhodes, and Von Erichs also took to their social media to pay him tribute.

The WWE Hall Of Famer and Bart’s student, John Layfield stated, "Black Bart took me under his wing and taught me how to be a professional wrestler. We were tag champs in Texas-but we were also just buddies. We sat together in the dressing room while Bart spit in his trashcan and constantly joked about everything. Bart meant the world to me. I love you big brother. RIP."
