Wade Barrett takes hilarious dig at former teammates

Stuart Bennet, best known by his ring name Wade Barrett, bid adieu to wrestling in 2016. Since then he has taken up other non-wrestling roles and is currently serving as a colour commentator on the SmackDown brand.

In a recent X post by WWE, which wished him a happy birthday, Barrett was introduced as the former leader of the Corre. The message read, “We've got some ... GOOD NEWS! It's Wade Barrett's birthday! Happy birthday to the former leader of the Corre,” followed by a winking face emoji.



As a response to the post, Barrett joked that the faction had no leader. He penned a hilarious reply that said, “FALSE. The Corre had no leader; it was made up of four equals. (all equally crap if we’re being honest)”

Wade Barrett’s time as the leader of The Corre

2010 saw Barrett join the stable The Nexus alongside former NXT stars Darren Young, Ryback, Justin Gabriel and Heath Slater. Following their bout with John Cena, the group made quite some noise on WWE television at the time. Barrett’s journey in the group came to a disastrous end when he was defeated by Cena at the TLC event of that year. This led to him being kicked out of the group with CM Punk replacing him as the leader.



This event gave birth to The Corre in January 2011, which was formed with Barrett and former members Slater and Gabriel, as well as Ezekiel Jackson. After enjoying some success in the ring, the group was finally dissolved after a month. During his time in the group, Barrett had won the Intercontinental Championship.

Although the group didn’t last very long, The Corre is a notable milestone in Barrett’s WWE career. Currently, he is a part of the SmackDown commentary team where he works alongside fellow retired pro wrestler Corey Graves.
