Randy Orton's King of the Ring aspirations were dashed at WWE Night of Champions, further compounded by a recent defeat that jeopardized his Undisputed WWE title rematch against John Cena. Randy Orton walked into last week's WWE Night of Champions Premium Live Event in hopes of becoming King of the Ring. However, things did not go as per his plan. As he was still reeling from the effects of a huge loss that could have earned him a rematch against John Cena for the Undisputed WWE title, another superstar got in his way. This came on the July 4th edition of Friday Night SmackDown, and now, both superstars are set to collide against each other at the upcoming WWE Saturday Night's Main Event.

Which superstar is set to face Randy Orton at WWE Saturday Night's Main Event?

On this week's edition of SmackDown, which was taped after the June 30th episode of RAW, Randy Orton and Cody Rhodes were involved in an in-ring segment. The American Nightmare was the superstar who defeated Orton in the finals of the King of the Ring tournament. The Viper asked his former protege to make a promise that he would defeat John Cena at SummerSlam and win back the Undisputed WWE Championship. At that moment, Drew McIntyre made his return to SmackDown, weeks after his gruesome Steel Cage match against Damian Priest on the May edition of WWE Saturday Night's Main Event. The Scottish Warrior began to trash-talk against the two top stars and took shots at them. Just as he had his back turned on Orton, he planted him with his finisher, the RKO.
Later on, he ran into SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis and was frustrated with what went down in the ring. Aldis gave a solution to settle the score by making a match between Orton and McIntyre for the July edition of WWE Saturday Night's Main Event. This was a huge addition to a stacked card announced for the show so far.
Randy Orton and Drew McIntyre had a heated rivalry back in the early 2020s over the WWE Championship. It was McIntyre whom Orton defeated to win his last World Championship so far. Now, the duo is set to reignite their rivalry at the vintage show. With tensions running wild, it will be interesting to see the action unfold between Orton and McIntyre. Also read: Cody Rhodes vs John Cena for the Undisputed title set for WWE SummerSlam 2025
