NEW DELHI: Wrestling visionary Paul Heyman, a lifelong figure in professional wrestling, is set to be the first inductee into this year's WWE Hall of Fame class, as announced by WWE and confirmed by Heyman himself. The 58-year-old has left an indelible mark on the wrestling world, making a name for himself as a manager, advocate, and creative force behind some of the industry's most iconic moments.

Heyman's journey in professional wrestling began in the 1970s when, as a teenager, he infiltrated Madison Square Garden with a press pass, forging connections with wrestling personalities. Vince McMahon Sr., the old promoter of what is now WWE, hired him as a ringside photographer for $50. Although Heyman moved away from photography, his passion for storytelling in wrestling never wavered.

Known for his brashness and creativity, Heyman became a prominent figure in the wrestling locker room. He associated with legendary personalities such as "Captain" Lou Albano, Gorilla Monsoon, and The Wild Samoans, pitching innovative storyline ideas that would later reshape the wrestling landscape.

Heyman's major contribution to the industry came during his tenure as the creative mind behind Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW) in the 1990s. ECW, under Heyman's guidance, became synonymous with extreme and innovative wrestling, introducing elements like barbed-wire ropes and flaming tables. Many ideas and performers from ECW were later incorporated into WWE, influencing the mainstream wrestling product.

His impact on wrestling extended to WWE, where he played various roles, including managing and advocating for top-tier talent. Heyman is currently associated with WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns and is set to accompany him to the ring at WrestleMania XL for a match against Cody Rhodes.

The Hall of Fame induction ceremony is scheduled for April 5 at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Heyman's old stomping ground during the ECW era. WrestleMania XL, taking place on April 6 and 7 at Lincoln Financial Field, will feature Heyman once again in the main event, marking his sixth consecutive WrestleMania main event and seventh overall.
