NEW DELHI: The National Basketball Association (NBA) revealed that the reigning champions, the Denver Nuggets, will square off against the Boston Celtics in a pair of preseason games set to take place in Abu Dhabi this October. The highly anticipated matchups are scheduled for October 4 and October 6, marking the third edition of the NBA Abu Dhabi Games.
The Denver Nuggets, led by the formidable presence of two-time Most Valuable Player Nikola Jokic, secured their first NBA title last June after defeating the Miami Heat.
The historic victory marked a monumental achievement in the team's 47-year NBA history. On the other side of the court, the Boston Celtics, boasting the talents of five-time All-Star Jayson Tatum, reached the penultimate round of the playoffs, narrowly missing out on a chance at the championship.
"We're excited to bring two of the best teams in the NBA to Abu Dhabi in the Celtics and the Nuggets," stated Mark Tatum, the NBA's deputy commissioner, in a press release.
Tatum emphasized the incredible momentum surrounding basketball in the UAE and the broader Middle East, expressing confidence that these preseason games, alongside year-round grassroots development initiatives and fan engagement efforts, will contribute to the flourishing growth of basketball in the region.
