John Cena opens up about wrestling movies

Recently, in an interview with Jeff Goldblum on “The Jimmy Kimmel Show,” the 16-time World Champion discussed the challenges of bringing wrestling stories to life on screen. He also talked about the tone of such films and their success. He mentioned, "There have been a number of wrestling movies over the years, some poking fun at the sport and others taking a more serious tone.” (Via Fightful.com)

Cena emphasized how challenging it is to create films about wrestling, noting that both The Wrestler, a fictional portrayal of a wrestler's personal struggles, and The Iron Claw, which explores the legacy of the Von Erich family, have successfully captured the essence of the individuals involved. He remarked, "Movies about wrestling, they are a tough subject matter to tackle. Movies like ‘The Wrestler’ and movies like ‘The Iron Claw’ have done a really good job in telling the story of the individuals. It is such a larger-than-life thing and there are so many memorable names. ‘Iron Claw’ is about four marquee players in Texas. ‘The Wrestler’ is the story of a marquee player who has passed his prime and what he’s trying to do in collectively trying to pick up the pieces of his own life. It’s that rock star not being able to step off the stage story." (Via Fightful.com)

John Cena believes that the success of films like Iron Claw and The Wrestler opens the door for more movies of this kind. He mentioned that wrestling, sports entertainment, and WWE are rich with untold stories. “When I see a movie done well like ‘Iron Claw’ or ‘The Wrestler,’ it gives me hope that more stories can be told because there are so many stories in our library,” he said. It seems that Cena is hinting at the possibility of his involvement in similar projects.
