WWE veteran John Cena is on his way to bid adieu to the ring and he plans for an epic departure. This year at the Money In The Bank event in Canada, he announced that he will be going on a retirement tour in the coming year. In 2023 he spoke about the possibility of returning to the UK during this tour and recently brought this up again while speaking with TalkSPORT.
The 16-time WWE World Champion got candid about his wish to return to the UK and had also previously pushed the possibility of hosting a WrestleMania event there. When asked about this at the recent interview, he said, "I really hope so. As you know, I'm retiring from in-ring performing next year and we'll start in January and we'll do our last match in December 2025. I really hope there are some UK dates involved in that farewell.”
“I campaigned for WrestleMania to be located in London”
Cena didn’t hold back to express his wish to host the event in London citing the dedicated fanbase in the UK. He said, “I meant what I said, and I said the same thing in Canada, the UK and Canada have been such strong supporters of the WWE, through thick and thin. I campaigned for WrestleMania to be located in London because I think London has absolutely earned the right to host the Grandest Stage of Them All. Nick Khan and Triple H were just there talking to the mayor of London.”
Although he felt quite certain that this dream probably won't materialize anytime soon, Cena remained hopeful and gushed about being attending as a fan himself if indeed it does happen. He went on to say,“Hopefully, I don't know, things work out and maybe WrestleMania in London in the future. It's not going to happen in 2025, so unfortunately, I won't have a match there, but if it does, I will absolutely be there as a fan." (Transcription credit: Frightful)
