While the entire professional wrestling community including his fans were shocked by this announcement, most of them have come to terms with it. Recently the wrestler opened up about how he felt about retiring and the date that he announced for when he would be hangin up his boots.

Cena shares his thought process behind his retirement

While talking on CBS Mornings, the face of the company said that he felt great about announcing his retirement. He said, “I feel great. My last performance in the WWE ring will be in December 2025, period, and I like saying that because if I lie to my audience, they’re gonna call me on my BS.”

He further added, “I’ll know what’s next when it comes up, but I know if I wake up every day and say, ‘How can I earn the sunset?’ I’m going to do something useful, and that’s going to lead to something to be done.”

John Cena has been associated with the WWE from 2002 and has been a babyface throughout his career. He’s one of the most popular superstars in the world of professional wrestling and has made multiple appearances in movies too. Although he’ll be hanging up his boots at the end of 2025, fans will likely be able to see him in movies.

However, what remains to be seen is whether or not he wins the WWE Championship for the 17th time. He’s currently tied with Ric Flair and they jointly hold the highest number of World Championship title victories so far. The closest that other wrestlers have come are 14 times with Randy Orton and Triple H sharing that spot.
