John Cena takes responsibility for legendary 2005 Royal Rumble fiasco

NEW DELHI: WWE veteran John Cena recently admitted to being the one at fault for the infamous finish of the 2005 Royal Rumble match.

The chaotic conclusion saw Cena and Batista simultaneously going over the top rope and hitting the mat at the same time, leading to WWE Chairman Vince McMahon coming out to "restart" the match. Eventually, Batista emerged victorious after eliminating Cena in the free-for-all.


Cena, known for his candor, shared his side of the story while speaking with Logan Paul on IMPAULSIVE. The 16-time World Champion took full responsibility for the botched finish and asserted that it was not Batista's fault. Cena openly acknowledged that he had made a mistake during the high-stakes match.

"Trust the process. I know I messed up. And we know that that’s not the way it’s supposed to go. There is a sense of guidance; we’re all on the same team. Our referee can be a guide for us. You begin to listen to the audience and feel how long you can milk a moment and see if they’re giving you any direction. Then, as we trust the process, out comes Vince McMahon, and we’re like, ‘oh great, this is going to be fixed,’ and he tears both of his quads getting into the ring," Cena explained during the conversation.
