"I would love to get my hands on Cena again": WWE Star opens up about his encounters with 16-time World Champion

As John Cena nears retirement, rising WWE star Dominik Mysterio expresses his desire for one more match against the 16-time World Champion. Having previously shared the ring in dark matches, Mysterio wishes to revisit their history, now in his current heel persona, adding intrigue to Cena's final run in WWE.

It’s no surprise that every single wrestler in the WWE locker room would want a piece of John Cena. The 16-time World Champion has been the face of the company for years now and now that he’s on his road to retirement, everyone wants to challenge him for a match one last time.
One such wrestler is Dominik Mysterio. This young and upcoming star is currently one of the most prominent figures in WWE, thanks to his ongoing feud with Rhea Ripley and Damian Priest, and has shared ring time with Cena back in the day.

Dominik Mysterio wants to wrestle with John Cena again

Speaking to Chris Van Vliet on the Insight podcast, he said that he would want to face John Cena once again. He mentioned, “I’ve actually wrestled John in a dark match for SmackDown. But I would love to get my hands on Cena again. Yeah, I have some history there that I’d like to touch back with.”
He also mentioned that back in the day, before Cena challenged Reigns at SummerSlam in 2021, Mysterio, his father, and Cena had multiple dark matches in SmackDown, once the tapings for the live events concluded.
“All the live events I was tagging with my deadbeat and Cena against Roman and The Usos. It was me, John Cena, Rey Mysterio, against Roman and The Usos. So him being okay with me [being in the match], I shouldn’t have been in that [or] in any of those matches leading into SummerSlam. In no way, shape or form should I have been in that ring with any of those guys, maybe my dad.”

He also went on to state that whenever he’s been in the ring with Cena, he’s done so in the capacity of a babyface. But now that he’s completely embraced his heel persona, it’ll be fun for him to step into the ring once again as a villain and face the 16-time World Champion.
While it’s unclear if something of this sort will happen at this point, it’s difficult to say who finally gets to face John Cena on his retirement run. It’ll also be interesting to see if he gets his 17th title victory in the final leg of his journey with the company.
