The Undertaker opens up about his final WWE run

During the podcast, The Undertaker shared that he wanted his last match to be something he could be proud of. He didn't want to keep wrestling just for the sake of it, especially as his body was starting to break down. "I wanted to have that one match I could hang my hat on and say goodbye because my body, I mean, it was breaking down at that point. I can walk and talk and I could get out right now and I could do a match, but it's not a match that you as an Undertaker fan is like, 'Ah, that's not my guy'. They may give me the benefit of the doubt because I've got all that equity built up in all those years but I don't want that ... I did not want to become a parody of myself, like, I had too much pride in what I accomplished." (Via Impaulsive and Wrestling Inc)

The Undertaker expressed concern about fans giving him the benefit of the doubt simply because of his long and successful career. He didn't want to rely on past achievements to carry him through matches if his performance wasn't up to his usual high standards.

Even after retirement, The Undertaker admitted that staying away from the ring wasn't easy. He revealed that his appearance at WrestleMania 40, where he was involved in the match between Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Championship, helped him cope with the struggle of staying retired. Four years after his final match, The Undertaker still grappled with the challenge of stepping out of the spotlight. His decision to retire was motivated by a desire to preserve the integrity of his legendary career and avoid tarnishing the legacy he built over decades.
