Sabu, Rob Van Dam, Paul Heyman, and Many Others Were Unhappy With ECW’s Revival

Sabu shed light on his disdain for WWE’s production of ECW during a conversation on the Donut Shop Chronicles.

He said, “My intentions on coming to the new ECW was they were going to keep it the way it was build on that. But as I was there, each week it got less and less, you know? Less like the old ECW and more like the new bulls**t, and then I just didn't fit in. I couldn't fit in no more; I couldn't go to work with a smile.”

Rob Van Dam also hated how WWE handled ECW. He once went on record and claimed that Vince McMahon only brought the show back to kill it for good. Moreover, Paul Heyman, who made ECW what it was in the first place got so frustrated with Vince’s vision for the show that he quit wrestling. Heyman stepped away from the ring for six years because the entire situation had burnt him out.

The only person who might’ve had a good idea about what to do with ECW was Shane McMahon. Apparently, Shane wanted to make ECW an online show instead of putting it on TV. Doing so would’ve given the company more creative freedom which would’ve resulted in a more accurate revival of ECW. Perhaps this way, the show might've been able to go back to what made it great in the first place. It is also worth considering how ECW would be if it was running in today's era when hosting shows online is easier than it has ever been.
