NEW DELHI:
WWE star Cody Rhodes has stepped forward to support The Wrestling Club, an after-school wrestling club at KIPP AMP Middle School in Brooklyn.
Rhodes announced on Wednesday night that he will be sending the group to WrestleMania 40, covering their tickets and hotel expenses.
The Wrestling Club, established by English teacher Victor Perry, has been actively fundraising by selling popcorn to finance their trip to WrestleMania.
Rhodes, recognizing their efforts, decided to make a direct contribution to their cause. In a social media post, Rhodes declared, "I could buy a bunch of popcorn or I could just tell ya’ - I’ve got your tickets and hotels. You’re going to Wrestlemania 40!"
Victor Perry's Wrestling Club has gained popularity on social media for its engaging videos reacting to wrestling matches. Focused on the art of storytelling and character building in professional wrestling, the club has garnered attention from both WWE and
AEW wrestlers, with visits from Big E, Titus O'Neil, Shelton Benjamin, and Cedric Alexander.
Speaking about the club's mission, Perry stated last year, "I'm committed because I wish I had it. As a kid, I often thought I was too short, not as athletic, and I wish I would've had a space where I felt like I could've belonged, to have fun with just exploring the possibility of something."
WrestleMania 40 is scheduled to take place at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on Saturday, April 6, and Sunday, April 7. While Cody Rhodes' role in the event is yet to be revealed, this gesture underscores the positive impact wrestlers can have on their fans, particularly in empowering and supporting youth initiatives within the wrestling community.
