Cody Rhoades talks about his potential heel turn

Cody Rhoades is one of the most prominent wrestlers at this point and has performed exceptionally well across WWE and AEW. The current WWE World Champion is one of the biggest babyfaces in the industry right now.

Despite that, fans want to see the American Nightmare as a heel and he’s addressed that very possibility, and has talked about the details of what it entails to be a good heel in this day and age.

Is Cody Rhoades turning heel?

As of now, there’s no such indication of Cody Rhoades turning heel, but the possibility of that happening shouldn’t be ignored at all. Fans aside, wrestling royalty like The Undertaker also believe that he’ll be a good heel.

In a recent interview with the Pivot Podcast, Rhoades addressed the possibility of him turning heel. Here’s what he had to say about it:

“I want to be the champ. I want to be the, like, there’s a beauty if you can commit to being a bad, bad guy. It’s a unique space creatively. You’ve got to be really vulnerable and open, and you’ve got to be blood hungry in terms of how you are on the microphone. There’s like this growing sect of fans that wants to see that happen for me at some point, and I understand that. I don’t know if they know what they’re asking for, though.”


He further went on to state that being a heel meant offending a group of people, and that’s how it was in 2024. For someone to embrace the true essence of being a heel, they would have to have a very ruthless and aggressive approach to the entire matter, and dubbed it as “scorched earth.” He also stated that being a villain or a heel would mean that fans would have to dislike him and not find him cool.

Although it’s not unfamiliar territory for Rhoades because he’s played a heel previously, it will be interesting to see if he shifts to that persona at this point because he’s having one of the best runs of his career right now.

Furthermore, for him to be a heel, there needs to be a proper babyface to challenge him. At this point, there isn’t a prominent babyface who’s free to go up against the American Nightmare in the WWE.

With Money in the Bank less than a week away, it will be interesting to see how things pan out for Cody Rhoades and who wins the briefcase with the contract for a guaranteed title shot. That said, if the superstar is ready to embrace a heel role once again, and if that’s something the fans really want, WWE’s creative team could start weaving the storylines for it starting at the upcoming PPV on July 6, 2024.
