World number one shuttler Pramod Bhagat made an impressive start to his campaign in the men's singles competition but young Palak Kohli endured a tough day at the Tokyo Paralympics on Wednesday. But the mixed team pair of Bhagat and Kohli went down fighting against second seeds Lucas Mazur and Faustine Noel in the group B opener of the badminton event. India's Suyash Narayan Jadhav was disqualified in the Men's 100m breaststroke -- SB7 at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre. Bhagat, the reigning world champion, outwitted fellow Indian Manoj Sarkar 21-10, 21-23, 21-9 in his men's singles group A class SL3 opener that lasted 56 minutes. The 33-year-old, who had contracted polio during his childhood, will face Ukraine's Oleksandr Chyrkov on Thursday.

The Indian duo of Amit Kumar and Dharambir ended fifth and eighth respectively in the F51 men's club throw competition of the Paralympics on Wednesday. Kumar's best effort of the evening was 27.77m, which was also his season's best performance. The 36-year-old had finished fourth in the Rio Paralympics five years ago with an effort of 26.63m. Kumar is the reigning Asian Para Games champion as well. The 32-year-old Dharambir, who won the Asian Para Games silver behind Kumar in 2018, produced an effort of 25.59m which was also a seasonal best for him.
