TOISA 2025: Samrat Rana, Sumit Antil, Sheetal Devi named Sportspersons of the Year

TOISA 2025 brought together India’s sporting elite in Lucknow, celebrating excellence across more than 45 categories and highlighting a year of remarkable achievements. Smriti Mandhana and Samrat Rana headlined the honours as Sportspersons of the Year, while para icons Sheetal Devi and Sumit Antil showcased India’s growing strength on the global stage.

Team success was reflected in the Indian women’s cricket side’s recognition, while the Board of Control for Cricket in India was named Federation of the Year. Emerging star Divya Deshmukh signalled the future, and Leander Paes was honoured as Mentor of the Year.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath stressed the importance of grassroots development and expanding sports infrastructure, outlining a long-term vision for nurturing talent.

Among other winners, Shubman Gill and Deepti Sharma were named Cricketers of the Year, while Neeraj Chopra featured among track and field honourees. Lifetime Achievement awards for Mithali Raj and P. R. Sreejesh highlighted the evening’s blend of legacy and forward-looking ambition, underlining Indian sport’s continued rise.

Antim claimed gold at the Ulaanbaatar Open 2025 in Mongolia with a dominant 10-0 victory in the final, showcasing her technical superiority.

Sharath Kamal — Table Tennis

Sharath Kamal is widely regarded as India’s greatest table tennis player. He became the first Indian to win a Commonwealth Games singles gold in 2006 and has since amassed a record 13 Commonwealth Games medals. A 10-time national champion, he has also won medals at the Asian Games and Asian Championships, and became the first Indian to win an ITTF Pro Tour title. Sharath represented India at five Olympic Games from Athens 2004 to Paris 2024 and served as Co-Chair of the ITTF Athletes’ Commission. His achievements earned him the Padma Shri, Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna, and Arjuna Award.

The biggest names in Indian sport will once again gather under one roof as the much-anticipated Times of India Sports Awards (TOISA) returns to Lucknow for the third consecutive time on Saturday, celebrating the inspiring journeys and achievements of the country’s finest athletes across multiple disciplines.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will grace the occasion as a guest and hand over the trophies honouring achievers and emerging stars who made the nation proud over the past year.

The event will be attended by sporting legends like PT Usha, Leander Paes, Mithali Raj, Madan Lal, Sandeep Patil and Sardar Singh, and other top athletes, coaches, administrators and guests from across the country, making it one of the most prestigious sporting evenings of the year.

The eighth edition of the Times of India Sports Awards (TOISA) 2025 celebrated India’s finest athletes, recognising a landmark year across disciplines. Smriti Mandhana and Samrat Rana were named Sportspersons of the Year, while para stars Sheetal Devi and Sumit Antil underlined India’s growing dominance in para sports.

The Indian women’s cricket team’s golden run continued with team honours, and the Board of Control for Cricket in India was named Federation of the Year. Rising talent Divya Deshmukh won Emerging Sportsperson, while Leander Paes was honoured as Mentor of the Year.

Chief guest Yogi Adityanath emphasised grassroots development and infrastructure growth. With legends like Mithali Raj and P. R. Sreejesh receiving Lifetime Achievement awards, TOISA 2025 reflected both legacy and ambition in Indian sport.
