AHMEDABAD: Ahmedabad boy Vidit Vaghela came from a first set deficit to upset top seed and India No. 2 V Cheruku of Karnataka 6-7 (6), 6-3, 6-1 in the boys U-18 category quarterfinal clash in the ongoing Fenesta Nationals tennis tournament currently underway in New Delhi.
In the semifinal Vidit will face third seed BR Nikshep of Karnataka. In first round Vidit toppled eighth seed Manav Pondule of Maharashtra 6-3, 6-1.
Vidit also participated in the men’s category and won two qualifying round matches beating Paramveer Bajwa 9-7 and sagar Manjana 9-2. Vidit lost in the final qualifying round to Ranjeet Singh of Chandigarh 4-6, 6-4, 4-6.
A student of Ahmedabad City Tennis Foundation (ACTF) coached by Ranjit Thakor, Vidit also took part in the men’s doubles partnering Kunal Vazirani. They however lost to second seed Kazavinayak and C Vignesh of Andhra Pradesh 7-6 (4), 5-7, 9-11.
