Yuki Bhambri and partner Michael Venus advanced to their first Grand Slam quarterfinals in the US Open men's doubles competition, defeating fourth-seeded German pair Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz 6-4, 6-4 at New York.
The 14th seeded Indo-New Zealand duo completed their victory in one hour and 23 minutes. They will face 11th seeds Nikola Mektic from Croatia and American Rajeev Ram in the quarterfinals.
The 33-year-old Indian player, who struggled with injuries late in his singles career, has found better success in doubles. Earlier this year, he reached the third round at both French Open and Wimbledon.
In the Junior US Open events, Indian players faced elimination across categories. Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi put up a strong fight against second seed Hannah Klugman of Britain in the girls singles second round before losing 7-6 (1), 4-6, 6-3 in a match lasting two hours and two minutes.
Klugman successfully defended her serve when Maaya had a chance to break while she was serving for the match. The British player maintained pressure by consistently targeting Maaya's backhand.
Maaya's campaign in doubles also ended as she and partner Laima Cinalli lost 2-6, 2-6 to fourth seeds Luna Vladson and Jeline Vandromme.
In the boys category, Indian players Hitesh Chauhan and Krish Tyagi were also eliminated after losing their respective doubles second round matches.
