MUMBAI: AS Suresh Krishna of AP blasted off the court top seed and last years runnerup P C Vignesh, also of AP, his 6-2,6-2 victory marking the biggest upset in the mens singles quarterfinals of the Rs 10 lakh prize money Videocon All-India Open Tennis Tournament, hosted by Juhu Vile Parle Gymkhana Club at their courts on Friday.
The21-year-old, making a comeback to competitive tennis after a study break of twoyears,was superior in every department as he set up a last four clash with fifthseed Nitten Kirrtane, the 36-year-old from Pune. Kirrtane won the battle of theveterans, so to say, defeating 27-year-old Sunil Sipaeya of Haryana6-3,6-1.
Also making his way into the last four was MaharashtrasArjun Khade,who just needed one break of serve in each game to get the better ofTNs Vignesh Veerbhadran 6-4,6-4. Khade goes on to meet WBs Saurav Sukul,whodefeated Maharashtras Shabaaz Khan in three sets match 6-7 (6),6-2,6-1.
