MUMBAI: Former Davis Cupper and wild card entrant Sunil Sipaeya of Haryana upset third seed
Mithun Murali from Tamil Nadu 7-5, 6-4 to enter the men's second round of the Rs. 10 lakh prize money Videocon-All-India Open Tennis Championship, at Juhu Vile Parle Gymkhana Club on Tuesday.
The jinx for seeded players continued as second seed Aditya Madkekar, nursing a shoulder injury, conceded his match to statemate Shabaaz Khan after trailing 1-4 in the opening set.
In women's action, Gujarat's unseeded Vaibhavi Trivedi defeated eight seed Shruti Archita from Maharashtra 6-4, 6-0 to enter the quarterfinal. In the other match, fifth seed Zainab Sajjad of AP beat Haryana's Ankita Bhatia 7-6 (4), 6-4. In the quarterfinal she will meet Tamil Nadu's Sharon Paul, who blanked Maharashtra's Sayli Bilhare 6-0, 6-0.
