Novak Djokovic battles past Alexander Zverev to reach French Open semis, eyes record 25th Grand Slam
Novak Djokovic showed once again why he's one of the greatest in the sport, battling past Alexander Zverev in a gruelling four-set quarter-final at Roland Garros on Wednesday night. The 38-year-old Serb prevailed 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-4 in over three hours of intense tennis on Court Philippe Chatrier, booking a semi-final spot and moving one step closer to an unprecedented 25th Grand Slam title.
“It was an amazing match,” Djokovic said after his 101st French Open win. “Beating one of the best players in the world on this stage is why I keep pushing myself.”

Zverev, who stunned Djokovic early with a break of serve and took the first set, couldn’t sustain the pressure. Djokovic adjusted tactically, pummelling Zverev with drop-shots and finding timely breaks in the second and third sets to shift the momentum.

The Serbian legend now faces world number one Jannik Sinner in a blockbuster semi-final. “It’s going to be a big challenge,” Djokovic acknowledged. “I just hope I’ll be able to physically keep up.”
Despite a rocky start to the season, Djokovic’s latest performance silenced doubts about his form. “Beating Alcaraz in Australia and Zverev here shows I can still play at the highest level,” he said.
Zverev, graceful in defeat, echoed that sentiment. “I think he’s a bit underrated at the moment. He’s still beating the best.”
With the Paris crowd behind him and history within reach, Djokovic’s pursuit of greatness continues — proof that age may be just a number when you’re chasing legacy.

It amazes that Zverev refuses to feel the least bit humiliated. That in spite of a torrid serve, a massive forehand and age on his side, he loses blandly to an aging champion of 38 who beats him by skilfully using the drop shot to kill rallies. Does it not embarrass him to be caught on all fours, puffing away to reach the net only to find the ball bouncing twice before his flared nostrils? It is more than 8 years that he has been playing tennis at the highest level. Yet his docile mindset, his timid approach to an attacking opponent, and his reactive game take match after match away from him whenever he is against a worthy adversary. He will probably end up a Slamless wonder. But his fading out will be remembered for the wrong reasons of being unable to overcome the best, something that will haunt him in his life after tennis.Read allPost comment
