NEW DELHI: World number three Daniil Medvedev made an early exit in his first grass-court match of the season at 's-Hertogenbosch on Thursday, as he was defeated in three sets by French player Adrian Mannarino.
After being eliminated in the first round of the French Open last month, Medvedev started well by winning the first set. However, he couldn't maintain his momentum and eventually lost the match 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 to Mannarino, who had previously won the Dutch tournament in 2019.
Mannarino will advance to the quarter-finals and face either former Wimbledon finalist Milos Raonic, who is returning to the tour after a nearly two-year injury hiatus, or Australian player Jordan Thompson.

Despite this loss, Medvedev, who has claimed five titles this season, will soon be back in action at the grass-court tune-up event in Halle, Germany next week as he prepares for Wimbledon.
