NEW DELHI: Manish Sureshkumar and Vaidehi Chaudhari lorded over their rivals in the finals to claim the men’s and women’s titles respectively at the Fenesta Open National hard-court tennis titles here on Sunday.

Vaidehi cruised past Sai Samhitha 6-2, 6-0 while Manish dismantled the challenge from Digvijay Pratap Singh 6-2, 6-3 to emerge champions at the DLTA complex.

“Digvijay is a tough competitor, and I am really glad that I got through the match. I think this was one of the best matches of mine in the tournament and I am glad that I could do it. I have been trying two years to win the Nationals and it feels really great to do it this time,” said Manish.

In the Under-18 finals, Maharashtra’s Madhurima Sawant, the second seed, outplayed Karnataka’s Suhitha Maruri 6-3, 6-2 to take the girls’ title while Denim Yadav overcame Aman Dahiya 7-6 (2), 6-4 for the boys’ title.

“I feel really happy to win the title. I enjoyed the match and am really happy to be a national winner now,” said Madhurima.

Denim had a tough time in the first set. In the tie-break, he was stronger on the big points to pull off the set. In the second, the Madhya Pradesh lad put his best foot forward.

“Today’s match was really a hard one. Aman is one of my closest friends. The first set was really close,” the boys’ champion said.
