Double delight for Vaidehee Chaudhari

AHMEDABAD: Ahmedabad's tennis player Vaidehee Chaudhari has been climbing up the ladder rather quickly. The youngster has made the state proud a lot of times before in her career. This time around, it was a matter of double delight for the talented girl as she won the under-18 girls singles and doubles title in the AITA National Series Tennis Tournament held at SATS Tennis Complex in Hyderabad recently.
Vaidehee had to fight hard to overcome Humera Shaik 6-4, 7-5 in the final to win the singles title.After taking the first set, Shaik got her act together and started playing aggressive tennis in the second. It was Vaidehee's grit that took her through in the summit clash.
In the earlier rounds too, she had tough going and came from a set down to beat Tejaswi Kate 2-6, 7-6 (6), 6-0 in the second round before breezing past Shija Syeda 6-2, 6-1 in pre-quarters. She then had it easy when she beat Lasya Patnaik 6-2, 6-2 in the quarterfinals before brushing aside Shivani Amineni 6-4, 6-0 in the semifinal.
In the doubles category, Vaidehee and her partner Harsha Challa downed Humera Shaik and Rashmika Bhamidipaty 4-6, 6-2, 10-5 in a see-saw battle in the final.
Earlier, the duo thrashed Neha Ghare and Yeshaswini Panwar 6-2, 6-0 in the first round before beating Prathibha Narayan and Shreya Tatavarthy 6-3, 6-3 in the quarters. In the semis, they beat Shivani Amineni and Shivani Savya 6-4, 6-2.
