WASHINGTON, July 14: Andre Agassi's farewell tour will make a stop in the United States capital after all.
Agassi, a five-time winner at the ATP Washington Classic, has committed to play at the $600,000 hardcourt event that opens on July 31, tournament officials said on Thursday after speaking with the superstar. The 36-year-old American has announced he will retire after the US Open but the eight-time Grand Slam champion will play in several warm-up events before saying goodbye at Flushing Meadows.
"We're thrilled that he has announced his intention to play here for the 17th year," tournament chairman Donald Dell said.
Andy Roddick, James Blake, Tim Henman Lleyton Hewitt are also entered in the event. Paradorn Srichaphan, Andy Murray and Marat Safin are also in the draw.
