RIO DE JANEIRO: India's women archery team of Deepika Kumari, Laxmirani Majhi and Bombayla Devi, came within two points of making the semi-finals of the team event of the Rio Olympics but lost 23-25 in the shootout against Russia on Sunday.
The quarterfinal appearance by the women team is India's best ever performance in the event at Olympics. However, Deepika's performance was below par for her standards and when she needed to shoot a perfect 10 in the final, could only manage eight.
When questioned about her performance, Deepika rebutted saying it's easier to comment when one isn't facing the heat.

"It's not like that. It's easy to say we could have drawn (by shooting 10). You should try hitting yourself," she replied when asked whether she could have done better in the shootout. "We are all here to score 10 points but it's not an easy task. We tried our level best to keep our calm and perform. We gave our 100 percent."
It was quite windy at the Sambodromo arena on Sunday and Deepika said that the conditions were far worse than they were in London Olympics in 2012 but didn't blame it for their result. "It's way too windy here in Rio than at London but it was for everyone."
