Bengaluru:
Abhishek Reddy scored a resolute century to give hosts KSCA XI a slight edge over
Assam in the Dr Thimmappaiah Memorial All India cricket third round league encounter at the M Chinnaswamy stadium here on Tuesday.
Propelled by Reddy's 103 and an equally effective knock by skipper
CM Gautam (75 not out), Group 'A' leaders KSCA XI, who resumed their innings at 19 for no loss on the third day, were 264/5 at stumps.
KSCA made amends after a poor first innings with a strong opening partnership of 92 runs between Reddy and R Samarth (40). After the opening stand was broken, Reddy and Gautam got together to add 86 runs as the fourth-wicket stand helped the hosts erase the first-innings deficit of 107 and extended the overall lead to 157 runs. Assam off-spinner Sarupam Purakayastha claimed three wickets while Syed Mohammed took two.
At the Alur grounds, a resolute double hundred from D Nischal helped KSCA President’s XI bounce back into the reckoning against Bengal. Replying to Bengal’s first innings 489, President’s XI rode on Nischal’s 202 and KN Bharath’s 147 and their 270-run partnership to finish the day at 444/3. They trail by 45 runs.
Nischal’s knock helped him complete 1700 runs from four tournaments this season that included the KSCA first division, SAS and the Shafi Darashah. The opening batsman was the top-scorer at the recently concluded KSCA first division league with 989 runs for Jawahar Sports Club.
At the adjacent venue, KSCA Colts rode on Liyan Khan’s 162 to snatch the first innings lead against Andhra. Group ‘B’ leaders Haryana secured a berth in the semifinals with a innings and 176-run win over Tripura.
